Digital Citizenship
Cascade Middle School has partnered with Common Sense Media (www.commonsensemedia.org) to provide instruction to our students on how to navigate their digital worlds in a safe, legal, and ethical manner. The curriculum we utilize can be found on their website (above) or by clicking HERE. All of our students have now completed the second of three units of study. Assessment scores on the first unit averaged around 75% and school-wide averages on the second assessment were closer to 80%. We are proud of our teachers for making this instructional commitment and are proud of our students for recognizing the importance of being good digital citizens!

Common Sense Media is also committed to helping parents keep their children safe in the digital world. A section of their website is devoted to "families" and is full of resources such as their "family tip sheets" like THIS ONE.

A child's world today is a very different world than the one in which many adults were raised. Common Sense Media recognizes this and is committed to not only keeping children safe in the digital world, but being a world leader in helping families become better digital role models for children as well.

The district has made the decision to NOT issue any child a Chromebook until parents have signed the "policy and procedure" document. Teachers have been asked to refrain from mandating Chromebook use in the classroom until Monday, November 3rd. As a result, if the "policy and procedure" document is not signed and returned to school prior to Friday, October 31, students will run the risk of falling behind academically if they haven't received their Chromebook by then. If you can not attend this important meeting at CMS, you can attend the meeting hosted at MC West at 6:00 on Wednesday 10/29 or the one h...
