The date has been set and Chromebook distribution plans are currently being finalized!! Cascade Middle School parents are strongly encouraged to attend the "Roll Out Meeting" hosted in the CMS Gymnasium on Tuesday, October 28th at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will consist of approximately a 30 minute conversation reviewing the Chromebook policies and procedures with parents and then parents will be escorted to classrooms where they may pick up their child's Chromebook after they sign the "policy and procedure" document signifying that you were given the opportunity to review those policies. The district has made the decision to NOT issue any child a Chromebook until parents have signed the "policy and procedure" document. Teachers have been asked to refrain from mandating Chromebook use in the classroom until Monday, November 3rd. As a result, if the "policy and procedure" document is not signed and returned to school prior to Friday, October 31, students will run the risk of falling behind academically if they haven't received their Chromebook by then. Approximately 500 Google Chromebooks (the Lenovo 11e) arrived on the Cascade campus last week and our technology department is actively preparing those devices for student use beginning in late October.All CMS students now have an active Gmail account which provides them access to Google Drive and the entire Google Apps for Education package. These programs will play a profound roll in the teaching and learning process as we move forward and will provide students with the 21st Century skills necessary in our technology rich world today. All 5th, 6th, and 7th grade Gmail accounts are restricted within the domain (@mccsc.k12.in.us). In other words, the technology will not permit students to send to or receive messages from anyone without a Mill Creek account. This is in compliance with the Childrens Online Privacy Protection Act (Federal law). Digital Citizenship lessons (focusing on proper ethical and legal use of electronic devices and digital accounts) will begin for all CMS students via Accel classes beginning in mid September and will continue until the end of February.
